Hunter Douglas window coverings are designed for everyday living, but like any investment in your home, a little regular care will help keep them looking beautiful and operating smoothly for years to come.

The best cleaning method depends on the style and material of your window covering. In most cases, regular light dusting is all that is needed to maintain your blinds or shades. Hunter Douglas recommends gentle cleaning methods and advises against harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners and other methods that could damage the product.

Regular Dusting

For most Hunter Douglas blinds and shades, regular, light dusting is the easiest way to prevent dust and dirt from building up.

Use a soft, clean cloth, feather duster or appropriate dusting mitt. Many products can also be gently vacuumed using a vacuum with a soft brush attachment.

For Fabric Shades

Many fabric shades, including cellular, Roman and sheer shades, can be gently vacuumed with a brush attachment.

If a spot needs attention, Hunter Douglas generally recommends using a soft cloth or sponge lightly moistened with lukewarm water and, when necessary, a small amount of mild detergent. Blot gently rather than rubbing, as rubbing can damage or crease delicate fabrics.

Wood Blinds Need Extra Care

Real wood blinds should be treated more like fine wood furniture. Dust them with a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush attachment, and protect them from excess moisture, steam and high-humidity environments.

Hunter Douglas does not recommend ultrasonic cleaning, chemical solvents or abrasive cleaners on its wood blinds, as these can damage the finish.

Be Careful With Cleaning Products

Avoid spraying glass cleaner or other cleaning products directly onto your blinds or shades. Hunter Douglas recommends spraying glass cleaner onto a cloth instead, helping to prevent accidental splattering onto the window covering.

Also, magnetic dusting mitts should not be used on light-dimming fabrics, as they can damage the light-dimming backing on certain products.
